Nautical Knot
A walk by the sea, connecting the history of a place with everyday life.
A place brought together.
The existing monuments retain their positions. New paths, small plazas and a coastal promenade connect them into a continuous route through the square.
Benches and planted areas sit between the paths, while the waterfront remains open to views. The idea of a knot is expressed through these connections: the city, its history and the sea meet within one walk.
Along the shore. Into the garden.
The straight promenade links the separate parts of the site. Cross paths lead into the garden and towards the sea; trees and hedges line the approach from the street.
Each landmark has its place.
The anchor composition stands on a circular plaza facing the sea. The busts occupy smaller paved spaces framed by planting. A consistent palette of paving, timber and dark metal brings these different settings together.
Stay a little longer by the sea.
Benches face the water or sit in the shade of trees. A swing bench occupies a small circular terrace beside the coastal planting.
Pale paving, timber seats and soft pink flowering shrubs give these places a quiet character. The open view remains the main focus.
Warm light at the water’s edge.
In the evening, the lamps illuminate paths and places to sit, while accent lighting brings out the sculptures and tree crowns. The sea remains a dark, open backdrop to the garden.
The square within its surroundings.
The overhead view shows the relationship between the garden, the coastal edge, the neighbouring building and the access road. The promenade connects the separate memorial spaces, with shorter paths leading towards the water.
A place to meet, pause and watch the sea.
