The Line of Time
A familiar walk, with the history of a place woven into it.
History at the scale of a walk.
The Line of Time draws on the image of a railway. Light lines set into the paving run through the square, linking its avenues and open spaces into a continuous walking route.
Along the way are places to linger: benches in the shade of mature trees, quiet corners among the planting and an open plaza for gatherings. The square retains its memorial character while becoming part of everyday city life.
One route. Different stories.
The central axis connects the memorial spaces. The rhythm of the paving and light inlays recalls rails and sleepers, while the open plaza gives the monument room to be seen.
A platform for a pause.
Slightly raised resting areas sit beside the main route. Timber benches, the shade of mature trees and layered planting create small places to pause within the long, straight square.
The path continues after dusk.
As daylight fades, the railway motif becomes a line of light. Low lighting traces the paving and platform edges; streetlights illuminate the places where people walk and pause.
The structure of the square.
The overhead view shows the open plaza flowing into a long avenue. Cross paths connect it to the surroundings, with planted areas and resting platforms arranged along the central axis.
The value of a place is measured by the life it makes room for.
